Aren't you infringing on copyrights by printing the 5E rules and references?

The 5E rules and references found in the HeroBook have been sourced from the 5th Edition System Reference Document, which has been published under the open source Open Gaming License by Wizards of the Coast. You can find more details here:

What do you mean by "reusable party tracker"?

The party tracker in HeroBook GM, located on the inside front cover, is laminated with a 1.5mil polypropylene coating. This non-porous surface allows you to use wet or dry-erase markers, erase the surface, and re-use it. I recommend pressing lightly when writing to avoid permanent indentations.

Are all of the pages in HeroBook GM reusable?

Only the inside of the front and back covers are laminated and usable with wet or dry erase markers. The inside front cover is the party tracker, while the inside back cover is left mostly blank for temporary note taking. The rest of the book is regular 70lb acid-free, satin paper. This paper does hold up pretty well to bleeding, so you can absolutely use your wet or dry erase markers on the regular paper, but they won’t be erasable.

Why does HeroBook GM have an exposed spine?

In addition to looking awesome, the exposed spine is flexible and thus allows the book to lay completely flat. This makes it very comfortable to write and draw in, and also prevents pages from flipping inadvertently while you’re reading rules.

Why is HeroBook GM more expensive than the original?

HeroBook GM has 256 pages, which is 96 pages larger than the original. We’re including the higher quality cover stock that was unlocked as stretch goals last time by default. Finally, HeroBook GM contains a significant amount of original content written specifically for DMs that wasn’t required in the original book, which takes extra resources to produce.

Can I get an original HeroBook as an add-on?

We will be offering the original HeroBook as an add-on in our pledge manager after the campaign ends, but please be aware that all rewards from this campaign will ship at the same time - our estimated shipping date is March 2020. If you want to get your hands on a HeroBook sooner – like right now – you can order one right now from our online store at materialcomponents.co and have it shipped immediately!

I pledged for your last campaign and haven't received my reward yet.

All rewards from the first campaign have been shipped as of January, unless you did not fill out your backer survey. If you need help with your original pledge, please contact us through Kickstarter (click on our profile)!

How is HeroBook GM different from the original HeroBook?

The original HeroBook was designed for players, whereas the content in HeroBook GM is completely redone to better serve 5E game masters. Although the basic design is the same, the GM edition is also larger (256 pages vs 160 pages), and features tons of brand new worldbuilding tools, tables, and generators that aren’t found in the original book.

Will there be more cover options?

While we offered six cover options in our first campaign to fit a variety of character types, this didn’t feel necessary for a GM edition, so we’re sticking with a single cover that features gloss black details on matte black paper. I think it looks incredible, and the finished product could be our sleekest design yet.

Will there be more pledge reward options?

We’re a small company, so keeping the scope of the project manageable is important. I’ve decided not to offer any unique pledge reward tiers this time around in order to ensure the focus is on creating an extremely high-quality primary reward.

Will you be offering a local pick-up option for Vancouver backers?

As we are working with fulfillment companies located outside of Vancouver, this is unfortunately not possible as the logistics would be very difficult. If you would like to see HeroBook GM available in your favorite local game store, make sure to mention it to them!

Are you adding any stretch goals to this campaign?

I will not be adding any stretch goals. This backer update goes into detail on why not:

I play Pathfinder/4E/3.5E/AD&D - are you gonna make a book for other systems?

If there’s enough demand, it will certainly be considered for future projects. For this campaign, we’re sticking with 5E. One thing at a time!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
